Bright.

Here again is the Depend polish brought to me from Spain.
The moment I got it I really liked the image in the packaging, it's fun and vibrant and reminds me of paisley print.
And I do love me some paisley print. It's probably a good thing I don't run a fashion blog.

The polish itself isn't relevant to this post, but I wanted to try and recreate something similar to the background picture as an accent nail, so I did!

Base colours: white is a nameless polish from Primark's P.S. brand, minty green is OPI's 'That's Hula-rious'.

Detail colours: Herôme W.I.C.'s 'Dakar 107', Koh's 'Coral (185)', 'No Worries (217)' and an unknown polish from the same brand.

P.S., That's Hula-rious!

Here we've got a white polish from Primark's P.S. brand, I couldn't find a discernible name on the bottle anywhere and OPI'S 'That's Hula-rious!', a super cute mint shade.
What's interesting to me here is that Primark's polish, a budget one at its mere €1.50 and the OPI, retailing in the Netherlands around €14.95, have very similar issues.

My search for a good (and affordable) white nail polish is never ending and I'll be blunt in saying that the brush on this one is absolutely shit. It's a flat brush which I initially thought a positive, but the bristles are all over the place and make it hard to apply an even coat without scratching the one beneath it. It needed three frustrating coats to cover to a point where I was content with it. Despite that, I do really like the formula on this one. It's the only white in my collection so far that actually looks more like nail polish than white out. Decidedly a good thing, that. Until I find something with both a decent formula and a decent brush, I'm still going to consider this one a win.

The brush on 'That's Hu-larious!' has misbehaving bristles as well and similarly makes it a challenge to get a nice opaque coverage going. In its defense I will say that this particular shade of minty green is 100% my favourite of all minty polishes I've encountered so far. It's just so sweet and bright and fresh that I'll keep using it despite the non-ideal brush situation.

Take the Stage

I have the OPI Little Teasers set from the movie Burlesque, and though I've used them in the past here and there I don't think I've ever written up a post about any of them.
This shiny little thing goes by the name of  'Take the Stage'.

My aunt entered both our names in a contest to win the minis (including tickets to see the film and a CD of the soundtrack), and I won! I didn't find out about it until after she got the good news so it was a really lovely surprise.
To be honest I felt like the movie was just Coyote Ugly with more sparkles, but I do actually like the soundtrack. I'll leave it at that since it's a little late for a movie review at this point. (It came out five years ago already?!)

Back to the nail polish!

Sadly another slight case of  'by the time I noticed the picture was blurry it was too late', but I think you still get a good idea of the colour.
As far as oranges go, I feel like it leans towards the darker ones a bit and that's what I like about it, it's just not quite that common shade.

I am all about the name with this one. It's fun and silly and I'm always in for a pun. That said, I'm not remotely into pineapples, but none of those had to be eaten by me for the purpose of this post. Moving on.

With this combination I think there could have been a lot of similar things done to it and ruining it completely, but the way it is now gives it a very festive vibe. When seen in the bottle I feared it might be very visually busy on the nail, but given that it actually takes a few goes to get a nice assortment of glittery bits out, it's all in your hands. And on your hands, because it's nail polish.
It also reminded me of the work of Gustav Klimt, if you can sort of see what I mean?
Lots of yellow. Lots of coloured bits.

Following are pictures of it applied after I added a matt top coat. The 'regular' photo's unfortunately turned out blurry, but to the eye there wasn't a huge difference between the two.

Another Halloween nail art from me! I had been wanting to do a second one, but couldn't quite decide until a friend gave me O.P.I.'s 'Shatter the Scales', a crackle polish from the Amazing Spider-Man Collection and I knew I had to incorporate it somehow.
On a more negative note, my computer is currently out of order so I have no access to Photoshop and am forced to use pixlr.com to edit my pictures. Which.. isn't great, but that's why things don't look as they usually do.

Boo!

It came back to me on the other hand.

This adorable ghost is on a base of Max Factor's '16 Emerald' and the ghost itself is a Hema polish.
The orange is again Herôme W.I.C.'s 'Zagora 150' and the crackle I mentioned above. You can tell it had been some time since I'd used a crackle - I forgot you had to spread them thicker if you wanted bigger cracks.



On my thumb you will find the little ghost's slightly larger friend.

With a weird border around the text? I miss Photoshop.

I know that I definitely enjoyed seeing a lot of Halloween themed nail art this year, and I'm sad to see it go. Next year, however, our time will come again!

A HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Meet Me on the Star Ferry.

Got this OPI polish from my aunt not too long ago. 'Meet Me on the Star Ferry'. I shan't even pretend to have an inkling what that name means or refers to, but it's a nice colour.

It's probably just an unfortunate coincidence, but I've not really been to impressed by any of the OPI polishes I've worn.
The price they charge for them in the Netherlands is a fair amount higher than in the US, and that alone gives me fairly high expectations.

It's a pretty old pink-purplish sort of shade. I'm not sure how to describe it. Very sparkly and shimmery.
Took around 4 coats to properly cover, though it was fairly fast drying.

Flash.

Artificial light.

Gone for green.

I realised I never even uploaded the picture I have as my icon! So, here it is. OPI's 'Greenwich-Village', stamped with a white Konad polish from an Essence stampy plate.. Originally done in May, 2011. Really a very lovely shade of green, but it does take an ungodly amount of coats to cover properly.
